Who We Are.

Cartwheel Foundation, Inc. (CFI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization founded in 1999. Cartwheel has focused its efforts towards giving the marginalized and disadvantaged communities of indigenous peoples the chance to enjoy their right to an education. Working hand in hand with generous partners and sponsors, Cartwheel’s effort is to bring education to the indigenous people who need it most.

OUR GOALS
In 1999, Cartwheel Foundation was born as a response to the Tala-Andig elders’ request to put up an early childhood school for the youth of Miarayon, Bukidnon. This indigenous community in the foothills of Mt. Kalatungan and Mt. Kitanglad served as the pilot area of Cartwheel’s education programs.

Cartwheel heeds the urgents call of Unicef to give indigenous children a better life. Indigenous Peoples (IPs) have unacceptably high rates of infant mortality, low levels of birth registration, vaccination, and
education compared to other communities.

Today, Cartwheel aims to serve more indigenous communities through partnerships with more indigenous groups and through the establishment of an Indigenous Peoples College called Pamulaan Center for Indigenous Peoples Education in Mintal, Davao City.

Together with partners University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP), ILAWAN Center for Volunteer and Leadership, Assisi Development Foundation, Office of Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr., and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Region XI, the school will provide college education to IPs who dream of an educational program rooted in their life, culture, and aspirations as a people.

Through Pamulaan Center, which opened in June 2006, Cartwheel hopes to bring education to more indigenous communities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
